The creation of a National digital sound Depository. The first results of cooperation

The Institute of Russian literature (Pushkin House), Russian Academy of Sciences and electronic information resources Publishing house "RusAR" with the support of the mission of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous district in St. Petersburg on 28-29 August held the International scientific-practical conference: "national digital sound Depository – technology safeguarding of the audio heritage of Russia".

The main objective of this scientific dialogue is not just to inform the interested scientific community about the implementation of the ambitious national project to preserve for future generations the historical collections, included in the UNESCO program "memory of the world" ("The Memory of the World"), but also the active involvement of new content participants to participate in the project.

The conference will be held on 28-29 August 2008 in the Pushkin House.

The scientific staff of the Pushkin House will be presented the first practical results obtained during the implementation of a large-scale project.

Invitees include representatives of a number of scientific institutions in the field of linguistics and history, Russian and foreign phonogrammarchiv and the library, professors and lecturers of specialized areas, the leaders of such regions as the Republic of Tatarstan, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous district, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Buryatia, and others.

The conference will discuss the following questions:

  1. The preservation of sound archives as part of the nationwide task of preserving the cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
  2. The state of sound archives in the regions of the Russian Federation: ways and methods of addressing the safeguarding of the audio heritage.
  3. Problems of standardization of audio and documentary collections (metadata) and their compatibility with international standards.
  4. Technical solutions for the creation of an electronic information resource of the future of the National Depository.

The project "national digital sound Depository" is implemented within the framework of the execution of the Memorandum "On participation in the preservation of collections of historical records of indigenous languages of the North of the phonogram archive of the Pushkin house" between the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district and Saint Petersburg scientific center of RAS, signed by the Governor YANAO Y. V. Neyelov and the Nobel prize winner academician Z. I. Alferov 13 December 2006 during the official visit of the delegation of the Autonomous district in St. Petersburg.
